Obsidian (New Species, Book 8) by Laurann Dohner

         I finally got to read this!! I know that I keep repeating how much I love this author and her series, but I love the New Species.

         Dr. Allison Baker is obsessed with saving the comatose New Species male. She has tried everything and there’s only one option left. Alli will break every rule and put her life in danger by tempting 880 to wake, using only her feminine scent and touch. She just has to kidnap him and crawl into bed with him to make it work.
         880 wakes in a different world with a small female who’s been sleeping beside him, caressing him and wrapping her sweet body around his, teasing his senses. He lies silent and still, listening and evaluating each arousing touch, fighting his body’s reaction. Hatred flares when he discovers she’s human, but Mercile stole everything from him so he decides it’s fair to take her in return.
         But things quickly change and he wants her at his side and in his bed. 880 has chosen a new name—Obsidian—the personification of dark and dangerous. He’ll fight them all to keep her and no one will stand in his way of taking a new mate as well.

         Ok, I loved this book, but I don't know if that was because I liked the story or if I just liked it because I like the idea of the New Species. I mean I know these books are quick reads, but I felt like everything went lightening fast, and that the description didn't properly describe the plot of the book.  The description makes it seem like there was going to be a lot more action than there ended up being.
         Yeah, she wakes him up because he smells her and thinks she is his mate; and, yeah, he falls for her... but he doesn't really do much to keep her. I mean, he does threaten people when they do try and take her, but when push came to shove they took her from him so easily. That frustrated me. I wanted him to kill that dumb ass shrink who said that she was raping and molesting him and everything. I understand that it is wrong to take advantage of a patient's emotional state, but she did everything in her power not to do that. Alli constantly stopped him and told him he needed to rethink things, and that she didn't want to take advantage of him. Obsidian basically coerced her into sleeping with him every time. She was always the one who said no. And then when they were going to sign mate papers, she still said no because she wanted to give him a chance at getting to know life with out her. I don't know about you guys, but I don't really consider that taking advantage of someone. If anything, Obsidian took advantage of Alli. Ugh I hated that doctor, and I looooove having characters to hate.
         Speaking of which... What the hell is up with that girl Kit? I don't remember her in the last book (But I will go back and look) but what the hell. What kind of bitch does something like that. She is a New Species herself, so she knows that once a male imprints a female he has no interest in anyone else, so why the hell did she keep hitting on Obsidian? It pissed me off so much! And to just say that because Alli was human she was no good, right in front of Alli and to Alli's mate (who is a guy who already has issues with humans). If I was there and if I had a gun, I would have shot her. I'm so serious.
         But I did like the book. I think what touches me most about the New Species is their devotion to their loved ones, whether they be friends or mates. Once they become attached to someone they are extremely devoted and protective. I think that is an amazing trait and while Laurann Dohner does seem to vilify humans, I do think that humans could learn a lot from the New Species.

I loved it and give it 5 stars. (wow I am really on a 5 star roll)

Flames Burn Hotter in Texas Trilogy by Naomi L. Wyatt

I was asked to review this book, but the following review contains entirely my own opinions.

I love small town romance stories, they just can get under my skin in ways that other romance stories can't. Maybe it is the nostalgia factor, but I just love them. And this is a story that falls right into that category. 

To start off with I want to say that I love the names in this book. Blush is such a unique name and it has such character, I love it... tucking that one away for the next time I need to name something. Cade is also such a hunky name. I think that the root of this story is something that almost anyone can understand: wanting to spread your wings and fly from the nest, try and make it on your own, cut the ties to your home town. It is certainly something that I have felt, and only recently have I grown up enough to really appreciate where I grew up and I think that Blush goes through a similar learning experience in this book, and she gets a hot guy to help her along the way.

I really liked how talented Blush was, I liked how she could just pick up the reins and start solving problems it really added a depth to her character that could have been lost in such an erotica heavy book. As far as the sex goes... it was pretty hot. I loved the scenes between Cade and Blush, sometimes I think they jumped into it a little fast, but then I remind myself that lust is lust, it hits hard and fast, so the speed of the relationship didn't bother me at all. What bothered me a bit was the relationship between Blush and Buck. For a while in the book it seemed like Cade was fading out of the picture and Buck was someone Blush was interested, but that wasn't to hard of an obstacle for me to get over, and I do understand that characters have to overcome challenges in order to grow, and it definitely added another facet to Blush's character.

When I first started this trilogy (it comes as a boxed set) I thought it would just be a fluffy erotica piece, but it showed surprising depth that I found very pleasing.

I give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars! Go check it out!

I was pretty excited when I was asked to review this book. It is my first lesbian erotica book that I have reviewed. Actually, it was the first on that I have read, and it definitely has me looking into the genre.

Because it is a shorter story it just jumped into the action which was a little jarring, but the author did her best to try and fill in the details. She definitely had a lot of details that she wanted to add in about the characters and at times it was a little distracting, I wish the book was a longer book so that we would have time to get to know those details about the characters without the author having to interject them in... it just made it seem a little rushed.

Now the sex scenes were great, I liked them a lot. I have never read lesbian erotica before and so I wasn't sure what to expect, but the scenes were very hot. I really liked Morgan and how mischievous she was, it just made everything about the sex seem so fun. Every girl should go find a Morgan. And I actually found it interesting that Morgan seemed to be the more dominant partner, it was refreshing.

I enjoyed the story a lot. I wish there was a little more plot and background because it would be interesting to see more of who the characters are, but over all it was a solid piece of erotica.

Four out of Five stars for hot scenes and for turning me on to the genre!

Velocirapture by Desdemona Devereaux

I was asked to review this book, but the following review is my honest opinion.

 Now this was an interesting read, and I actually found it a little difficult to review. So, I think in this case I am going to break down the book into two aspects: Plot and Sex. As far as the plot goes... it is not where the strength of this book lies. Lexxia must save the universe with sex, Which was an interesting concept but I was worried it would get cheesy really fast. That being said, while the plot left me wanting more, the shining point really was the creativity of the sex scenes.

I read a lot of romance novels and sometimes I find myself just skimming the sex scenes, either because they or boring or unoriginal. That was definitely not the case with this book. The sex scenes were very original. There is a little bit of everything, and also some gender bending and even some metaphysical sex. I kind of wish that there had been more of it, more of the unusual ideas, I know there is a second book, so maybe I will go and get it to see what else this author can think of.

So saying that about these two points. I would give the plot a 3 out of 5, but I don't want people to see that and think that it is a bad book, because it's not, it is an excellent book for it's specific genre, so for the sex I give it a 5 out of 5. So over all I guess that averages out to 4 out of 5. If you want to spice things up and get some reptilian surprises pick this book up.

The Assignment by Evangeline Anderson

         Yay! First post back! This book showed up on a bunch of lists that I was looking at. I actually find myself getting lost in those lists, and can wander through them for hours, but This book just kept popping up and after deciding not to read it a couple of times I finally gave in.

         Detective Nicholas Valenti, tall, dark and stoic, has been best friends with his partner, Sean O'Brian for six years. The two men have seen each other through divorce, disaster, and danger, and saved each other's asses more times than Valenti can count. Exactly when he started seeing his blond, intense partner in another light, Valenti isn't really sure. He only knows that he wants O'Brian in a way that had nothing to do with friendship and everything to do with possession. It is a desire he will have to hide forever because O'Brian is undeniably straight.

         The first thing that hit me about this book was the strange timing of it. This might just be because I never experienced them, but when the book said that this was set in the 80s I couldn't hold back a shudder. I thought, Oh dear, this is going to be painful and neon colored. But it turns out I was wrong and I don't think the story really even needed to tell us that it was set in the 80s. The story could have been something that happened today. I mean, I am assuming it could have, I haven never experienced anything that these characters went through but as far as the feelings of time and place, it felt very modern to me.

         I actually really liked the characters. It sometimes bothers me when characters are afraid of their sexuality, sometimes it just seems to contrived. And sometimes I just want to smack them until they get that being attracted to another man is not a bad things, but the struggle in this case felt pretty natural. O'Brian was so flirty and naturally physical that it never seemed forced between the two characters, even when it was forced on them. It was a bit of a "gay for you" story, as both the characters were very much interested in women until Valenti's divorce, but I have always thought that makes the story sweeter. Like they are so drawn to each other and so perfect for each other that something as little as orientation doesn't matter. So lovely.

         I felt that the whole "sleep with each other as blackmail" thing was a little forced. I understood it but it was predictable and I felt myself going, really? REALLY? But at the same time it did tear my heart apart a little because Valenti was so torn up about it, and he loved O'Brian so dearly and that made me tear up a bit when he started hating himself over it. And the chemistry between those two was sweet. As straight men they were so comfortable with each other that they were always touching, and I don't know about you guys, but my boyfriend rarely casually touched other guys, and if he does it is never more than for a few seconds... but they were ok with it and, it was great. The best part was when they were in the hotel and O'Brian finally saw his opening to get closer to Valenti. Ah it was so sneaky and sexy haha, though thinking about a pretty boy twink type with a bunch of chest hair was a bit difficult.

I  liked this book, it was a fun read and I should have read it sooner. I give it 3 stars!

Bloodraven by P.L. Nunn

         Hey, I'm trying to get caught up with school and stuff so it has been a while, but I am going to try my best to start catching up. This book that I am about to review I have seen on a lot of the lists on Goodreads that I have been skimming. I had it as a "to-read" for a while, but I read a lot of reviews saying that it was extremely violent and off putting so I was a little cautious of reading it. But I finally dug in my heels and started it.

         A son of a forest dwelling people, Yhalen knows little of the world outside the ancestral forest, until he is captured by a band of ogres on a slave-taking mission. Only grim tales of the barbaric giants had reached the forest, but Yhalen soon learns that even the darkest fireside story only hinted at the brutality of these Northern warriors. He discovers the meaning of true fear at their hands, and only the awakening of ancient magic saves him from destruction.

         Surviving ogre viciousness, he finds himself given to Bloodraven, the half ogre, half human war leader as a slave. Yhalen, refusing to bend, soon pays the price for offending prickly ogre pride.

         But Bloodraven is no mindless, violent ogrish beast. Bloodraven has an agenda and Yhalen finds himself drawn in the wake into human and ogre politics, into bloodshed and cruelty and into the forbidden magic that is damnation in the eyes of his own people, but which might mean the difference between death and salvation.

         This book was interesting... It was extremely graphic. There were many many many violent scenes that made my stomach turn. Poor Yhalen went through so much and still he had spirit. That was something that pissed me off though. Not the part about Yhalen having spirit, because I was so happy he anaged to struggle through it all, but that people kept telling him that he couldn't imagine the abuse that human slaves of ogres went through, and I was like YES HE CAN!! And even after he told Bloodraven about it Bloodraven kept telling him to lay low because he couldnt imagine the trauma of being tortured by ogres.  It made me so mad.

         I think there was a lot of miscommunication between the characters, but somehow despite all of that they got along extremely well. Even though Yhalen was forced into the relationship and he was extremely prideful, they still managed to find a balance that didn't cause too many problems. I thought that was a really amazing thing to have because it stopped things in the relationship from getting too dramatic. I like drama, but sometimes in forced relationships it gets too extreme for me.

         This was a very long book. I am not entirely sure how I felt about that because I thought the characters were incredibly interesting, but I also at times was thinking, man how much longer is there. There is also the fact that the least expensive version of this book was in PDF form, which for some reason made the book feel even longer than it already was. I did love the story though, with the violence aside, I thought it was a really touching story about how they found common ground and began to build a friendship and relationship off of it. Sure, Bloodraven was really pushy about sex, but he was always worried about Yhalen's well being and was always trying to think of ways to make life easier for Yhalen.

         I really liked the character Bloodraven. I feel like we learned more about Yhalen, because he went through the most brutal trials, but I wish that we had gotten to learn more about Bloodraven's life. When he was disowned by one of his only real friends I thought I was going to try, but at the same time i kept thinking it was worth it because Yhalen always ended up putting Bloodraven first, while Bloodraven's ogre friends never really cared about him that way. I liked Bloodraven's personality, how he thought Yhalen was amusing and didn't want to break him, how he seemed to care about who was hurt by his actions and how responsible he was. It was a wonder that he turned out to be such a caring person when he was raised among the ogres. I thought one of the most touching scenes was when he was trying to get Yhalen to use his magic and kept telling him to make the dog attack him, and Yhalen said he couldn't because the dog loved Bloodraven. And Bloodraven was floored because love isn't a concept known in ogre life, and Bloodraven mourns the fact that they will never know love.

         I really loved these characters and the story and I really love how they ended up so happy but I loved the most how Yhalen got revenge in the end. Ogres treated humans like trash and brutalized them, tore them apart and laughed at it, and then they just came across the wrong human, and when they tortured him, he snapped and then they got a taste of their own medicine and they hated it. And so I hope that in this world the humans are safe from the ogres in the future.

I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars

Concubine by Jill Knowles

         This is another one of those books that I always passed over... Maybe it was because for a while I wasn't into the whole M/M thing, and sometimes I get tired of the BDSM thing too. But I was, once again, an idiot for skipping over this book. I really liked it! Which is surprising because dubious consent romance usually makes me a bit uncomfortable. Though I ended up looking upon this book as more of an arranged marriage kind of thing.

         Scholar, captain...war prize. Prince Kael of Korai is stunned when his father gives him to an enemy warlord in a desperate attempt to salvage Korai's reputation. With his country's honor at stake, Kael resolves to submit to Warlord Taren's every debauched whim.

         The first thing that I want to say about this book is that I thought that Taren was really sexy. Not only did he have cool scales, but they were purple, which is my absolute favorite color, so I was inclined to like him right off the bat. I thought Kael was a little whiney and at first I was annoyed but then I reminded myself of the situation he was in and decided he deserved to be  whiney. It wasn't his choice to be a concubine, especially to another male. He deserved to be upset.

         I think that Knowles showcased a very interesting psychological struggle within Kael. He had to struggle with not wanting to submit to another man, his disgust with himself  for being interested in Taren, his fear of what was to come, and his need to preserve the honor of his country by giving in. I do think it is endearing how he likes being with Taren, and I think that Taren is amazing at handling the situation and doing his best to make Kael comfortable about adjusting into his new role in life.

         I like how they ended up mating, but I didn't understand why the whole guild was dying to Taren as a customer. From what he said he never was interested in using the guild and he never enjoyed it, so I don't understand why they claimed that they were losing such a great customer. I also didn't like that Taren's past lover worked so close with him and that he tried to pursue a relationship with Taren even after he was obviously interested in Kael.

         I thought that the mastermind behind everything was a pretty good twist. I did not expect Mendon to be the killer. I didn't like him at first but then when he obviously disliked Taren's past lover as much as I did he began to grow on me, and he seemed to warm up to Kael so it really came as a surprise to me when he turned out to be the one behind everything. Or maybe I was just so wrapped up in the relationship between Taren and Kael that I might have missed some clues that Mendon was behind it all.

         I love how the beast within Taren recognized  Kael right away and that in giving into the beast and the man, Kael was freed from his own doubts and he was able to fully embrace the relationship. It was really steamy too, some very very sexual scenes, so it is not a book for the faint of heart. i give it a 4 out of 5 stars!

Broken Boundaries by Evangeline Anderson

         Yay! I'm back. It is kind of sad how long I have been gone. But first I was on vacation, then school started, then I got sick, and then time just seemed to slip away from me. So, today I was sitting in one of my boring lit classes and realized that I hadn't posted in a while and that it was time to fix that.

         I know that while I have reviewed some YA books on here, a lot of the books I review are romance and usually erotic (which is why it is kinda weird that my grandma insisted that I give her the url to my blog) and lately I have been exploring some strange categories of those genres. There will be many interesting reviews to come from gay love (which isn't that weird no matter what my boyfriend says) to sex with a spider. All to come soon. But I have rambled on enough about that, and now it is time to get to today's review! Yay! So, here is Broken Boundaries!

         Chaz is the youngest recruit the Academy has ever seen. Godlike reflexes and hawk eyes make him a natural gunner assigned to fly the futuristic ship with technology so advanced it’s still classified. But it takes a two-man crew and Chaz, the lone wolf, must have a partner.

         On his first day he meets Ferron, the most dangerous man at the Academy. The ice blue eyes and scarred face of the older cadet aren’t enough to scare Chaz. Nor are the rumors that Ferron killed his last partner. But when he finds out they are to be a team, his anxiety starts to mount.

         Tension climbs to a breaking point when Ferron informs him that in order to fly the Needle he and Chaz must have their bodies pressed together in a dance of sensual intimacy that makes the sexually straight Chaz angry and uncomfortable.

         Ferron must master Chaz completely and break down his physical and emotional boundaries. The only thing that will keep them alive is their partnership—any space between them means certain death.

         I liked the concept of this story a lot, in a weird way I can see how it would make sense to be extremely physically and emotionally close to your flight partner in a situation like battle, but I can also understand how it could freak new recruits out, especially male recruits. I just feel like men, young men, who consider themselves straight are very freaked out by anything even remotely homoerotic.

         I really liked Ferron, he was quite believable to me, but I was beyond annoyed by Chaz. First off what kind of name is Chaz? It sounds like cheese, and it doesn't really lend much confidence in his intelligence. And he is apparently a really smart guy... but he such a jerk. He was the one who wanted to become a needle gunner more than anything, enough to leave his family behind and give up a full ride to a good school. I feel like if you want it that badly, you just suck it up and deal with what your mentor tells you to do. Maybe that is just me. I guess if I was in his situation I would be a little uncomfortable being all hot and heavy with another girl, but I wouldn't fight against it as much as he had, especially if I had spent most of my life dreaming about being a needle gunner. But, guys must be more skittish about stuff like that because it threatens their manhood, or something.

         Another thing that bothered me was the slutty, super effeminate gay competition. I guess in hetero books there are usually slutty female characters, but this guy was ridiculous, talking about taking it up the ass all the time and how everyone wanted him... I don't know, it drove me crazy, maybe because I have never met someone, male or female, who acted like that. Are there even real people in the world who are like that?

         But those things aside, I actually thought that it was a very realistic love story, in the sense that I think these characters actually got to know each other on a level that allowed for them to be comfortable with each other and their sexuality. On a side note: wtf was up with those lobster monsters? And how did they blow up the ship in a maneuver that had killed the previous pilot who tried it. Where the lobsters that stupid that they would fall for it again? And after being gone for decades, why did they decide to come back right then. I understand the lobsters were a tool to further the plot but it seemed pretty obvious that she was just using the aliens to get Chaz and Ferron to have sex.

         I liked it, and I hope to find other good m/m stories in the future to write about. I would give it 3 out of 5 stars. Again, I am so sorry it has been so long since I have posted, I am going to try my best to catch up, I have midterms and then spring break so hopefully I can catch up then.

Lilith Enraptured (Divinity Warrior) by Michelle M. Pillow

         I know I said I had been reading YA and I will get back to that soon, but I read this book pretty quickly and thought I would do a review since I have been seriously slacking.

         Sorin of Firewall lives in a land forever at war. In fact, the Starian men are so busy fighting, their marriage ceremony has been reduced to a "will of the gods" event where they simply pick a woman out of a lineup and claim her as a wife. With women becoming scarce, it's necessary to trade the off world Divinity Corporation for brides. Duty-bound to attend the ceremony, Sorin has no intention of picking a bride, let alone one from another dimension. That is, until he sees Lilith, the bewitching woman sent by the gods to reward-or punish him?.

         Lilith, a data analyst for Divinity, is betrayed by the Corporation and wakes up in a primitive, uncharted dimension filled with warriors who know only war and duty. Her fear of becoming a sex slave to a big, beefy knight becomes all too real when a warrior of god-like proportions claims she's his new woman. As Lilith discovers, there are worse fates than being the focus of Sorin's skillful and earthy seduction.

         This story was a pretty standard "kidnap woman" story. Lilith gets kidnapped by her corporation and sent to this world that is stuck at war in the middle ages and she gets selected by this giant warrior to basically be his baby maker.  Usually the heroine would put up more of a fight,  but she gave in pretty quickly and of course there were plenty of misunderstandings before they finally had a happily ever after.

         Go read the book then come back.

         I know this post is a bit short, but I kind of felt that the plot was lacking, but I mean I guess most people don't read the book for the plot. The sex scenes were okay, but I have definitely read better. I do like the idea of the constant war, that is a cool concept, because most places are looking for an end to a war but this one didn't want to stop the war and had purposefully stayed in the middle ages so that they could have more control over what their enemy can do to hurt them.

         I also kind of liked the idea of Having the wife's room inside the husband's, I mean, one way to look at it is that she has to get past her husband to get out, but on the other hand the idea of a room within a room seems really cool to me. I know it's silly, but now I want to do that in my house.  I know this was a short review, but I feel like there wasn't much to talk about. They met disagreed about her staying, got over it and fell in love. Though, I do wish that Sorin had gone more in depth about his first wife Bianka. We know she tried to cheat then ran off to be with his enemies who then killed and ate her, but every time that Lilith brought it up he would get super pissed about it, which is understandable. I just wanted to be able to get a better picture of this first wife so that I could compare Lilith to her.

         I would give this book a three out of five stars. A quick read, but the story doesn't really grab you.

Justice (New Species, Book 4) by Laurann Dohner

         On to book four, Man, I am just flying through these books :) I really liked this one.

       Justice North is the face of New Species. Seeing him up close makes Jessie's heart race. He's the ultimate alpha male-big, muscular, exotically beautiful...and dangerous. Of course he's off limits. But then the sexy man purrs and all bets are off.
         Jessie Dupree is a mouthy, fiery human female who brings out the animal in Justice. She wants to show him how to relax, and he's all for anything she wants to do, but Justice has sworn to protect his people and to take a Species mate. He's torn between the woman he wants and the oath he's taken.
         Jessie knows a relationship between them probably won't end well; heartbreak is inevitable. But that won't stop her from freeing the wildness inside Justice and spending every moment she can steal wrapped around his hot body, making him roar with passion.

         I loved this book. I really like Jessie and I think it was really cool to get to see how Justice really is. We have seen him in all of the past books and he is always the calm collected one who has all the answers and he totally loses it in this book.  It's so great. I have always liked the idea of a guy losing control because he wants me so much. Jessie is a lucky girl.

         Drama. I love it. And there was lots of it in this book. Man, when he didn't want anyone to know about them, I loved that. That must be such a heart wrenching feeling, poor Jessie, and when he told her that he still planned on taking a New Species female as a mate I wanted to scream. I love it when I can feel pain and frustration right along with the characters I am reading about. And at the end when he finally claimed her in public. So cute and awesome.

         And Damn! Jessie is so fierce. She protects those she loves and I thought it was so awesome when she was defending justice in the hospital and she refused to give up the guns and she threatened to shoot anyone who came within 10 feet of him. I would be like that if someone had attacked my boyfriend so I respect that. Also, what is it with Laurann Dohner always having people walk in while the main characters are having sex, I get so embarrassed for them!

Valiant (New Species, Book 3) by Laurann Dohner

         Yay! Another New Species book! Haha, there will probably be a lot of these and other Laurann Dohner books on this blog, but what can I say? I love hot animal sex... no! Lolz, While that aspect is interesting, and I do get all my sexy skills from all these erotic books I read, I kinda like the stories.

         Tammy has always tried to be prepared for any calamity life might send her way but she never imagined a sexy, lion man-beast in her future. He's huge, got the most exotic, golden cat-eyes she's ever seen, and she's so terrified she's speechless for the first time in her life. He's stalking closer, growling at her, and she's too terrified to even flee.Valiant hates humans.
         But when he gets a whiff of the adorable human female who has invaded his territory, he starts rethinking. Her fear scents of pure, sweet temptation and the closer he gets, the more appealing she becomes. Once he's got his hands on her, he isn't about to let her go. One thought will change his life. MINE! Before Tammy can regain her senses, she's flat on her back in Valiant's bed.

         I like Valiant. I really do, but I don't know, this is not one of my favorite New Species books. I think it has to do with me having a hard time picturing what he looks like. I know that is a shallow reason, but truly I can't imagine him. I was already having a hard time picturing the normal New Species but he is supposed to look even less human than they do...
         I like Tammy, I like how she is such a smart ass. I mean I'll be the first to admit that sometimes mouthy, strong female characters get on my nerves, but she was ok. I liked her attitude. I also liked how  she was kidnapped. Meaning, I am not happy she was kidnapped but I was happy that we got to see how the New Species act in captivity. We saw a but of that in Fury, but now we got to see how they are kept after Mercile was busted.
         I love drama, and I think that Laurann Dohner does too. I'm off to write the review about Justice... I liked that book better.

Slade (New Species, Book 2) by Laurann Dohner

         I actually read this book before I read the Seventh book, because for some reason Amazon wouldn't let me download, it because it said it was banned in the US. But (!) I kept checking back, and it finally was okay for me to get it :)

         Dr. Trisha Norbit is flat on her back in a hospital bed, pinned under a really big New Species male. Though drugged out of his mind, he promises her ecstasy and is determined to deliver-but hospital staff intervenes.
         215 is a man Trisha will never forget. But, when she meets him again at Homeland...he doesn't even remember her.          The thing I like most about Slade is that he seems to have adjusted to life really well. Even when he was first brought into the hospital, after he was rescued, he wasn't raving and trying to kill people. He just tried to seduce Trisha. He has it together for the most part. And I like the fact that he was so devoted to this image of her in the hospital that he wasn't willing to be with anyone else. That being said... How the hell did he not recognize her? The New Species are all about scent and all that jazz, he spent so much time guarding her, how did he not recognize how she smelled? Maybe he was too drugged... I don't know, maybe I should learn how to suspend my disbelief better.

         I also want to say this... BABIES! Oh my goodness. I. Love. Babies. At least I love them in books. I love when characters have babies and though it hinted constantly throughout the book that she was going to have a baby (rereading it, she was hitting you over the head trying to clue you in) I was still so excited when she found out she was pregnant. And I also love when the male character is like, no way is that mine, and then he is a big jerk and almost blows his chances, but then he realizes the truth and tries to win her back. That happened here but I felt like it all happened so fast, I wish that part had been drawn out a little more.

         I am so beyond happy that the New Species can now have children, They deserved it so so much, and now they can start to build the families that they have longed for. Laurann Dohner has some writing issues, she kind of stated the obvious... how do I explain this, there were terms for this that I learned in my writing class, but it has been several months since then, and with chemo brain it is sometimes hard to remember stuff like that... Damn I can't remember, but sometimes her writing style would take me out of the story. Like she would say, "She experienced fear." Well, yeah she is being shot at of course she is feeling fear, you don't have tell me. But if memory serves her writing improves the further into the series she gets.

         Well, I'm off to start my next  book :)

Fury (New Species Book 1) by Laurann Dohner

          Now, I have to say this... The New Species series is one of my favorite. I just love it so much, so I decided since I was going through my old books that I would write about it. (I know my Boyfriend is going to read this post and make fun of me for it, but I don't care. Guys just don't get it :P)

          Now, this is the first book in series and the writing is a bit choppy in places, which sometimes annoyed me, but (!) I really love this series. I'm not entirely sure that I can put into words the reason I love it so much.
          This mostly takes place after Ellie has smuggled out the information that is needed to shut Mercile Industries down, and the New Species have a new home base that Ellie has helped build because she is haunted by the thought of Fury being locked up in his cell. She is willing to do anything to make a safe place for the new species. There are also hate groups popping up all over the place who argue that because the New Species are part animal they don't deserve basic human rights. Idiots.they all also seem to be red necks who like to hunt, that made me giggle. They say that any human willing to associate with the New Species are betraying humans.
          I love the whole Alpha male, possessive protector thing... I know, I know... I should be a modern woman and shun such outdated modes of thought, but really... I think deep down every woman wants a guy as devoted as these New Species males are. Something that confuses me sometimes are the whole facial features thing... like the pronounced cheekbones and strange noses.. (The eyes are cool though) I cant really picture those features so I just imagine a super hot guy instead.
          Now, this is a "romance" (as in there is a love story) but it is mostly an erotic novel, so a lot of the story revolves around sex instead of the slow build of a relationship. I don't have a problem with this... but its very graphic so... yeah. And remember that these men had their dna spliced with that of wild animals, so they do have animal traits. Like the growling (always sexy) but the one that might seem out of the ordinary was the fact that Fury (who is a canine breed) has a knot. Like at the end of sex he would swell up and end of locked inside Ellie. Now, that made me a little uncomfortable at first, but I got over it. I mean it might be freaky in a "OMG he is part animal" way, but I also think its kinda a plus, Ellie was right, It would make him a cuddler. Who doesn't love cuddling? And just a quick note: when Fury told Ellie he was a shooter, I positively chortled. A shooter...lolz.
          Now, there is a woman in this one who tries to steal Fury away, but that plot line kinda falls apart in the end because she actually didn't want him... I don't know... it was weird. I did like how Fury wanted revenge on Ellie, because she kinda did pull a bitch move in the beginning of the book, I mean she could have just left the testing facility early and they would have known she killed the doctor but she would have already left. I mean she really didn't have to frame Fury. But then I think Fury took a little long to get over it, but hey everyone is allowed their character flaws.
          Now, Justice (The head New Species guy) kept walking in one Ellie and Fury having sex... Come on man, after the first time, learn to knock. It happened over and over. Everyone kept walking in on them, and they always seemed to think he was hurting her. Crazy people.
